The three-day "Management Education in the Digital Age" Conference completed on 14 September 2001 at Hotel Equatorial, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Some sixty speakers from fourteen countries shared their research and findings to about one hundred local academic and business audience and an equal number of attendants from overseas universities and institions.

The conference was jointly organized between Swiss-AIT-Vietnam Management Development Programme (SAV) and School of Industrial Management (SIM) of University of Technology, Ho Chi Minh City.

Three tracks were in focus: "Management Education in the Digital Age", "e-Revolution in Asia", and "Developing knowledge-based Industries".

Researchers agreed that tremendous wealth of content resources available in virtual comunities or the Internet. These resources were further and continuously enriched by specialists, students and academia. Other researches also proposed that a comprehensive model of a well-funded and highly systematically staff development program should be in place to optimize the use of such valuable resources. Networking appeared to be means that draw substantial attention of researchers. Business simulation and problem-based learning approach were also recommended to enhance students' experience of management. Discussions also recognized that there was a uniqueness within each nation and this must be a reflected in planning of management education. Vietnam needed to learn from, but not adopt without critique, models from elsewhere in Asia.

Several challenges, however, were presented with respect to curriculum design . For instance, the use of real world relationships of companies and limitation of case studies & simulations were highlighted. How to use the concepts of system thinking in curriculum design and how to use the ideas of learning and active learning to change classroom practice were also among issues that raised concerns of researchers.

Cases of knowledge-based industry infrastructures and application of information technologies into business and education were reviewed and evaluated.
